Blackhawk Technical College - Staying until the end

September 4, 2016

Blackhawk Technical College (BTC) in Janesville invited us to their Resource Fair on August 30. The Fair offers students to take advantage of multiple resources both on and off campus. Many students came by for the two hour fair, and we were able to register students, give them information on their polling sites, and inform them about which IDs are acceptable at the polls on election day. We answered so many good questions.

Thanks to members of the Janesville and Beloit League of Women Voters who were able to give their time at BTC to register voters. The League members are so dedicated! For example, even after the event finished, the food was put away, the other organizations had taken down their table displays, and many of the students moved on with their day, the League members stayed to finish the registration of one more voter and answer her questions. Every vote matters. Every voice matters.

Also, our presence and activity at the event inspired BTC students to engage with their democratic process - they are following up with their clerk to become Special Registration Deputies to register more fellow students on campus so they are ready to vote. How cool that the students want to get involved!

And special thanks to 99.9 WJVL for putting us live on the air to encourage voters to get registered and Gear Up to Vote during the BTC event. So much great outreach in one day.
